Ebrahim Barzegary

Hello!

I'm Ebrahim Barzegary.
I'm passionate about many things — business, algorithms, psychology, philosophy, art, and poetry. I enjoy challenging norms, finding new ways to see familiar things, and I'm always exploring new topics to learn and grow.

Over the years, I've been an engineer, entrepreneur, data scientist, business analyst, researcher, and teacher. Today, I’m a marketing professor and activist, working at the intersection of ideas, technology, marketing, and human and societal well-being.

Research

My background is in algorithm design, computer science, and marketing — a combination that lets me approach problems from both technical and human angles. I enjoy working across disciplines and using multiple methods — I believe this helps us see problems more clearly and from different perspectives.

I'm fascinated by how people think, decide, and behave. My research is driven by a mix of curiosity and concern: I study how business optimizations, often made without much reflection, can shape human behavior, impact society, and affect the planet. I believe there’s a better equilibrium — one where individuals, businesses, and the planet can all thrive together. Through my work, I’m trying to understand what that looks like and how we might get there.

You can read more about my research here.

Marketing for Betterment

Marketing for Betterment is a research and technology-driven initiative I started to rethink the role of marketing in today’s world. It's shaped by a simple but powerful question: What if marketing could truly serve people — not just persuade them?

I believe there is a different equilibrium — one where individuals, businesses, society, and the planet are all better off. I’m working to understand how we might reach that future, and I believe the key lies in aligning the incentives of businesses and individuals.

The mission of the initiative is to contribute to that change by creating awareness, fostering scientific research, and developing tools, technologies, and standards that support marketing practices aligned with human, societal, and planetary well-being.

Art and Poetry

Art and poetry are part of my path of self-discovery. I began exploring them as ways to express thoughts and feelings that don’t easily fit into formulas or frameworks — and to be honest, there’s not much you can express with equations and algorithms.

Over time, writing and drawing have become more than just creative outlets — they feel like quiet messages from my unconscious to my conscious self. My paintings are childlike and colorful, and my poetry is rich with symbolism. Both often circle around themes of growth, transformation, and healing.

One of my greatest influences is Rumi. His teachings on the inner journey and the language of the heart have deeply shaped both my art and poetry.

You can see some of my work in my Medium page.
